Coaching and supervision

This training will provide and explore structures for coaching and develop supervision skills. You will be encouraged to create educational material in your areas of special interest.

Communal learning

These modalities are learned primarily through experiencing them yourself, in your own body. The erotic education in this course is communal: we learn from each other and with each other. You will reflect on your experiences in writing and read the reflections of the other students. Thus, participants experience how humans learn sex – through mindful, self-directed practice over time.

Inclusivity and diversity

We strive to create a radically inclusive space and welcome diversity in age, race, culture, professional background, life experience, sexual orientation, and gender identities, characteristics and expressions.

Course Structure

  • The Somatic Sex Education™ training begins.

    • The Certificate in Somatic Sex Education program begins with an orientation Zoom for the coaches, a week before the first year CSB starts. This will include somatic coaching strategies as well as a collaborative review of the course materials, including new course material, in the Certificate in Sexological Bodywork training

    • Participants act as Peer Support People for Module 1 and transition to coaches for Modules 2-5

    • You will assist a “pod” of up to four CSB students to deepen their experience of embodiment and navigate the CSB track, typically with weekly Zooms

    • Coaches keep a learning journal during their Somatic Sex Education training. Parts of this journal will be shared online with others in the CSSE training

    • In addition to working with students, CSSE participants themselves are required to engage in five of the somatic enquiries from Module 1 and to post reports online with other student reports.

    • There will be regular CSSE group Zooms for reflection and support

    • Coaches will practice developing somatic sex education material

  • [You will arrive two days before the CSB students start the Embodiment Weeks, for preparation]

    • Coaches form part of the faculty for the Embodiment Intensive. The faculty meets before these begin for the CSB students for orientation and planning

    • Each coach will offer somatic teaching during the Embodiment Intensive. Teaching will be based on the home study assignments and informed by somatic learning theories. You will develop this teaching in consultation with the core teacher team

    • Coaches will participate in regular staff planning sessions at the Embodiment Intensive. These sessions will evaluate and guide the learning

    • Coaches will sometimes function as teaching assistants or witnesses during the Embodiment Intensive, offering guidance and feedback to students as appropriate

    • Coaches will offer coaching, supervision, and support to their assigned trainees during the Embodiment Weeks

    • Coaches will sometimes participate in group learning experiences along with students

    • Coaches will assist as needed with the logistics of the Embodiment weeks

  • Towards Certification

    • Coaches supervise and collaborate with their students as they begin to see practice clients. This involves 5 coaching Zooms with your trainees, for reflection on the learning in order to improve practice, and help with the planning and evaluation of student practice sessions

    • There are regular online meetings with the course facilitators and coaches for their professional support and supervision, to deepen their coaching and somatic sex education experience

    • Upon completion of all requirements (below) the Certificate in Somatic Sex Education (CSSE) will be awarded

  • The evolution of the U.K. training has been significant, with lots of new content and changes added recently, so if you completed a while back you’ll genuinely get a whole load of new learning to enhance your own understanding and practice. As a second-year student, supporting participants, you’ll improve your coaching skills and facilitation skills, and gain so much from working with this year's participants, you’ll learn just as much from them as they will from you - this is all about shared wisdom and experience. And of course, there are the intensives. Being involved in a different capacity, being part of the team, is wonderful. Hard work and deeply enriching, on many levels. The opportunity to coach, the learning that offers, is immensely valuable to my own practice. A rich, deep experience.

  • CSSE was invaluable for me. We cover so much at such a pace in CSB that it was a treat to go back and study the material again - it deepened my learning and built my confidence. It was great to experience the course from a team perspective. I learnt so much from being back stage, holding space and supporting the students. CSSE was an essential part of my growth as a coach and facilitator.

    Sarah Rose Bright

  • I highly recommend CSSE 2nd year - it was the best thing I did! After I completed the CSSE track my work blossomed. Coaching students through the training really deepens how one teaches the somatic enquiries and I felt confident in my ability to convey the information in a coaching format. There are regular meetings for CSSE’s where you talk about your specific learning needs. It’s a great team and we would LOVE to have you on board. Join us!
